New Bike

So one of the outcomes of my last triathlon and my more the graceful was a damaged bike frame and derailer. Thanks to having good friend, a buddy of mine took my bike to get fixed up, and as my car was also in the shop, he let me borrow his Softride for a couple of days so i can get around a bit. At least to and from work.

That Monday i decided to take the bike around a bit just to get used to it. The plan was a 5 mile ride around my area and then relax. I ended up doing 25 miles and only came home because it got dark out. The Softride bike was amazing.

The Softride website gives a bunch of reasons on why the bike is better. For me the fact that after 25 miles my lower back felt nothing, was more then anything their site could say. My new bike frame comes in on Tuesday and hopefully this weekend i will be able to put it all together and start riding my Softride Powerwing.

There are two types of riders...

Today there was second triathlon, it was a half mile swim, 13 mile ride, and a 5k at the end. which I ended up being about 3 minutes faster on a course that is 3 miles longer. This leads me to my title. There are two types or riders, those who have fallen, and those that will. Today about half way though the ride, i fell at about 20 miles an hour.

This ended up making for a fun finish where ever person i pass looked at the blood on my shoulder and face, and kept on asking if i was "ok".

Anyways, this race was fun, ocean swim, rolling hills, and a nice finish on the beach. And at the end a really nice first aid stand.

First Tri Pictures

Pictures from my first triathlon came out, you can view them in my google picasa thing here.

The best thing about these pictures is the look on your face as they are taking them. I think out of the 7 pictures they got of me, I only knew about one. There is no smile, there is just dedication, exhaustion, and retardation.

Today i signed up for a another Triathlon Sprint. In a week and a half i get to have fun again.

Random Bikers

Being a sunny Saturday it was a great day to hit up the bike. I decided to take a 20 mile ride, long strait and hard. Keeping up a pace of about 17 miles an hour for the 1:15 ride.

The cool thing about todays ride was the encounter with a fellow rider. At about the point where 110 and 113 murge, I watched a biker pull away as i was waiting for the light to turn green. After a couple of miles of 110 i finally caught up to the biker at the crossing of 15 over 110. The two of us ended up having a nice conversation all the way into downtown where he turned into derby and i headed home.

Mike was triathlete working on training on his 3rd Ironman. We ended up exchanding numbers in downtown and talking about riding together.

It was a good ride today.

First Ride

The hardest part of the training I think, is getting up in the morning to do it. You just need to muster up the gumption. Now, once you are up and on the bike, or the trail, or in the pool, you don't mind the work out quite as much. The body wakes up and you just go, but the moment when you are still in bed, it sucks.

Today I found time to wake up at 7:30 and go for an hour ride. It does feel great now, it wasn't quite so great at 7:30 though.

Starting Out

So about a month ago my boss approached me about doing a triathlon. "It's a short one" he assured me.

It didn't take much to convince me, and with a month before the race i decided to start getting in shape the event. The triathlon i signed up for was the Pat Griskus Triathlon Sprint. I didn't really know what i was getting into.

My training for the race was really half ass, I didn't even get a pair or running shoes till the week before the race, being able to go out running only 3 times to prepare my body for 3.1 mile run. And my lack of training ended up showing it's ugly face at the race. finishing the .5 mile swim in 17 minutes, the 10 mile bike in 35 minutes and the 3.1 mile run in 26 minutes. The total time for the race ended up reading 1:21:47.

Well the race brought back some good memories of cross country and swim meets from high school and i decided to start training on a more serious side. This log is going to show my progress as I train for future triathlon.

In this blog i plan on outlining my work outs, keeping track of times and distances and post thoughts about triathlon training in general. The training starts next Monday, July 16th 2007.
